Statement of Faith

I came to faith within the Christian tradition at the age of 18, and have experienced  a developing spiritual journey over the last 45 years.  Married to a devout Jewish husband, I will admit to a Judeo-Christian bias in my education, but I love learning about other faiths and worldviews.  I deeply respect clients of all faiths and work within their faith tradition if they wish to bring the spiritual aspect into our work, and I have worked with clients from many different faith traditions over the years. My work deeply integrates psychology and theology in my worldview and my understanding of the human soul.  Having a holistic view of human nature, I believe that the spiritual aspect of our existence cannot be separated from the other aspects of our life, just as the biological/physical aspect of our existence cannot be separated from our psychological and social aspects of life.

I have been continuously involved in the training and supervision of Christian mental health professionals for over 35 years, beginning as Adjunct Professor at Rosemead School of Psychology and at Fuller Graduate Seminary for a short while, and for the longest time as Clinical Supervisor for a Christian counseling ministry that placed counselling interns in churches throughout Southern California. In my current position as Assistant Professor at McMaster Divinity College in Hamilton, my passion is training pastors, pastoral counselors, chaplains and future registered psychotherapists in counseling skills, and the integration of psychology and biblical theology. I am available to speak in religious congregations about human development and relationship issues, and to consult with clergy and staff about organizational concerns.
